Fast Forward 25 years and my son, daughter in law and Grand daughter are stationed at North Island Naval Station on Coronado in San Diego. My Grand daughter is 9 months old today and has been sick off and on since being in daycare. Those of you with kids that were not fortunate enough to be full time stay at home Mommies know what I'm talking about. My kids grew up in daycare and I always had to have a backup provider in case they were sick (which of course happened because they were in Germ Central all week)! As an active duty member of the military, you don't have the luxury of FMLA or just taking off when your kids are sick. The mission ALWAYS comes first. Your family and everything and everyone else comes after. I am now at a point in our lives where I am fully retired and am able to help out when needed with older parents, relatives and now our precious Grand baby. Though I have the resource of TIME to give, I don't have unlimited financial resources to fund constant travel to California from Texas. When my kids called last week and said Mya was back in the hospital with mild pneumonia and the latest viral "crud" going around, I knew I wanted to be there to take care of her. I immediately called the Space A numbers for Lackland and Fort Worth to see if there was a flight going to North Island (or even Point Mugu or March AFB). Because I love Jesus and he loves me, he always provides exactly what I need WHEN I need it. There was a flight on Sunday morning from Fort Worth to North Island--nonstop with 121 seats available! I couldn't have asked for anything better. I would get there before Monday so Mya would not have to go back to daycare for a couple weeks. I drove to Fort Worth from San Antonio on Saturday (taking the beautiful scenic route and enjoying the spring wildflowers along the way) and stayed in the base lodging. Sunday morning I drove to the Passenger Terminal to check in 2 hours before flight, parked in long term SECURE parking (free) and waited to board my "charter flight" to San Diego! I met some great people waiting in the terminal with me.
