A is for Anticipation! The emotions felt while you dream about, think about, and talk about the upcoming trip are enough to qualify as an E ticket ride at Disneyland. That particular comment is a hint at my age. When I was in High School, they still issued tickets for rides based on how popular or "good" the ride was. E ticket rides were the BEST! Nowadays, you just pay one admission price and go on all the rides you want. The cost of a one day admission is enough to make you think you are being taken for a ride before you even enter the gates. Chalk it up to anticipation. (cue the ketchup commercial now)
B is for Being There! This is the actual vacation destination. You are now here and the good times must start rolling. We shove as much as humanly possible into every 24 hour period in order to maximize our experience. I think some people just call it "getting our moneys worth". Considering you usually save up for at least a year to take this trip, its a WHOLE LOT OF MONEY so you are determined to make it WORTH it! To most people, the B part of Vacation ABC's is the most important letter. It's the meat. We could switch up the "A" and call it the Appetizer (or AppeTEASER) and then move on to the main course, B. The BULK of the meal. The BONES. The BEST part. I love the main course but I also love appetizers and desserts. That analogy brings me to C.
C is for the Conclusion. This is after the trip is over and you have arrived back home with heavy suitcases and even heavier hearts. You are in a whole new world of emotions and you are NOT singing the "Happy" song by Pharrell. Wanna know why? Because you are NOT HAPPY. You are borderline depressed (or right smack dab in the center of the line) because you have to go to work for another whole year to save before you can have that wonderful experience again. So even though this word does not start with a "C", it sounds like "C" and is probably the best way to describe your feelings.
Yep, I am a grown up and this is my grown up website so I can say it here. You feel like a deflated balloon and can barely climb into your bed after unpacking your suitcase full of magical memories. You may want to CRY but why not try a new approach. Have a Cup of Coffee or better yet, a Cappuccino. Think of it as an after dinner dessert and just bask in the moment of a wonderful experience with many memories to carry you through till the next one. As a travel blogger, the C is when my fun really begins! I get to start writing about my experience in order to share it with you all. My ups and downs will be spilled so that you can take what I learned and apply it to your next trip and have an Awesome, Beautiful, and Completely satisfying time! I get to relive each day as I pour through photos and notes of my adventures. THIS is my favorite part. What most people see as the END of a great trip, I see as the beginning! Its all about perspective here and mine is probably different than yours. Diversity is a GOOD thing and seeing things from someone else's eyes is a wonderful new way to go through life. In case you are new here, THAT is my goal and purpose. To get you to see things differently, to step OUT of your comfort zone (or box) and get out and explore our beautiful world. My couch lessons here will hopefully inspire you to actually SURF the web and then the #realworld in pursuit of your happiness.
The ABC's of Vacation is really that simple! We have been in stage 1-Anticipation for several months now. Hubby has been working hard to earn the money for this trip and I have been working hard on the planning and details of our Being there. Now its time to get the ball rolling (well in this case, our suitcases) and BEGIN our Journey across the pond! We will be knocking several things off our respective lists of dream destinations all in one trip. Thanks to Princess Cruises, we are leaving our tired minds and bodies on the shore and are determined to #comebacknew (that is their hashtag and logo). We will be sailing from London to France, then on to Riverdance! That's my little rhyme I made up to explain our destination. It is a British Isles Cruise that sails roundtrip from Southampton, UK. We have 1 day in London, 1 day in Paris, and then 1 day in 8 other great ports throughout England, Scotland, and Ireland. We have 2 days at Sea to rest in between seeing all these great cities. It is truly the trip of a lifetime for us. We are celebrating 23 years of marriage and his finishing his higher education. No more school, LOTS more marriage!
Because I'm all about sharing and bringing you with me, I will be posting pics on instagram and twitter during the journey. You can follow us by using the hashtags #bicruiseruby (for British Isles Cruise on the Ruby Princess) and #londonfranceriverdance (because we are flying to London, sailing to France, then it's on to the land of Riverdance! That and I like the way it flows). You can also follow me on my #JoyfulJourneyist Facebook page. If it helps you, feel free to throw on a little old school Michael Jackson "ABC" to sing along as you dance in our footsteps!
ABC, its easy as 123, easy as Do Re Mi, ABC, 123 Baby YOU and ME! (hit it)
Disclaimer: This trip is NOT being sponsored by anyone (other than my Husband-lol). HE is paying all the cash for the actual vacation and I am paying all the dues of research and time. Opinions are ALWAYS my own and the ride is the same whether you paid with an E ticket, a FREE ticket, or a General Admission ticket :-)
