A friend from High School was coming to Texas for her sons wedding (in Galveston) and had never been to San Antonio. We haven't seen each other in over 30 years and only recently reconnected (thank you Facebook). We emailed back and forth a bit and I convinced her to fly into San Antonio where I would pick her up, drive her to Galveston, arrange our lodging for the weekend and drive us back for a quick day tour of my city. I wanted to use the driving time to catch up on each others lives and it would give us plenty of time to do just that! She then asked if it was okay if her Mom came along too. Of course I was thrilled--the more the merrier and I LOVE seniors!
Their flight was supposed to land at 3:45 pm Friday afternoon and we were leaving straight from the airport to Galveston (estimating an arrival time at our beach house by 9 pm). First rule of thumb when traveling is BE FLEXIBLE!!! They ended up not landing till almost 10 pm so it was after 2:30 am when we finally arrived in Galveston. On the plus side, we missed all the normal traffic in Houston. The wedding was at 10 am Saturday so we had to get to Galveston no matter what! Fortunately, I am a night owl so driving late into the night was not an issue at all. After a few hours of sleep it was time to get up and head to the beach!
