If you are feeling a little too old (or mature) for Children's programming, how about we jump on over to the table and call it Scattergories a la TT? It is one of my favorite board games and I actually play a version of it by myself when I am traveling. Basically I think of a letter and apply it to whatever I see. I then use it as much as possible for bonus points. Here is a picture to give you a visual example:
Well, I'm only one paragraph in and I am already WAY off track so let me re focus my menopausal brain and get to the good stuff! Back in February, I volunteered to work for the Visit San Antonio booth at the Rodeo. I am a newly pinned CTA. That stands for Certified Tourism Ambassador. As part of our certification, we participate in different events and educational opportunities throughout the year. When I was in the Military, these were referred to as CEU's. Continuing Education Units. I was an EMT and LVN and had to keep up with education and training in order to maintain my credentials and license. For us CTA's, we simply accrue points! Points are WAY better than another acronym. Plus, to earn the points you basically go on FIELD TRIPS! My favorite way to learn!
Any-who, the person that relieved me of my shift was a lady I had never met. We shook hands and introduced ourselves and I felt an immediate connection to her. Apparently she felt it too (cuz she engaged in conversation with me and didn't get scared by my enthusiasm). We talked for maybe 5 minutes and exchanged cards and vowed to keep in touch and plan a lunch date soon. I meet people all the time, like EVERY DAY, and want to spend more time with all of them. Unfortunately, there just isn't enough time to do that. We all have lives and priorities and "stuff" that occupies our clock. I vowed when I turned 50 to STOP it (or lets kick it old school and bring back a TV classic game show), #BeattheClock! I was determined to make more time for people and spend less time on "stuff". Lorie was gonna be my FIRST WIN!
I went to get something to eat before walking the grounds of the Rodeo. This has nothing to do with my story, but I really wanted to splash a #sillyselfie of me stuffing my face with fried cheese! After all, the title of this feature does have the word LUNCH in it. I mean, COME ON!
Fast Forward 5 months later and we are still having our monthly meetings (3 hour average). I tell Lorie that she is like the Best Friend I never knew I always wanted. (Bonus points if you can guess the movie reference. Just tell me in the comments below if you want to play). Our last lunch date was right after my 12 day British Isles Cruise with my Hubby. Since it started and ended in London, I thought a place with British Food would be perfect. Besides analogies, games, and selfies, I really like THEMES! They make the ordinary event become EXTRA ordinary! So I found a British Pub and we set the date and time. After enjoying a delicious meal and LOTS of laughter, I asked Lorie to pose for me using a couple of the "props". I already had my storyline building in my brain and I knew I would need photos! This one I will simply call #callme
We are the same age, are Happily Married to Men that sometimes travel for their jobs, are at the same spiritual point in our lives, and share a desire to figure out our purpose and get to DOING IT! Every time I think I have mine figured out, my Boss sort of tweaks it (or maybe he twerks it, I don't know...............although I'm certain that Jesus does NOT twerk in the traditional manner). Seriously People!
Anyway, Lorie feeds my soul, my heart, and my spirit with her friendship and her presence in my life. She is my favorite lunch lady! The reason she is "Legendary" is because she not only shows up, cracks me up, listens to me ramble all over the place and actually KEEPS UP with me, she brings me presents! I don't even like getting presents. I like GIVING them. Once again, my Boss had to straighten me out and show me that I really DO LIKE receiving them as much I love giving them :-) The time she spent finding these perfect items brought tears to my often wet eyes. No words really, to describe the feeling in my heart for a new friend at 50 that just completely GETS ME.
Anyway, because I am so BAD at this, I am very appreciative of people that do it well. My in laws are GREAT card givers! My #1 Soul Sister Wendy is also great at this (in addition to MANY OTHER GIFTS she has). If you think I have a lot, you should TOTALLY meet her! She makes me look like a slacker with no skills--lol! I love her like a twin and she inspires me every day! Anyway, back to the Legend that is LORIE. This is a perfect example of "how to do a card right":
Needless to say, this months lunch date with Lorie was just the fix I needed. She swooped in like a SuperHero (or Therapist---you pick), and got me back on my feet again! So today, on this Wonderful Wednesday, I salute you LORIE,
my Legendary Lunch Lady!
Thanks for no sloppy joes, no hair net, no old lady shoes. Thanks for all that you are NOT, and all that you ARE! You Rock my World and I am blessed to have you in my life! See you next month :-)
Alright, I have rambled on long enough for one day! Its YOUR TURN. Is there a Legendary Lunch Lady (or Man) in your life? Maybe someone you meet up with a couple times a year or a couple times a month. I would love to hear about them and how they help you get through your own #identitycrisis with a smile. Feel free to share in the comments section below. Friends and Legends are meant to be shared :-)
