HE ROSE FROM THE GRAVE!
And he wasn't even a zombie. He was a Man. He was a Son. He IS my Savior. Since society and media are trying to take away his Birthday, maybe we can give him an extra dose of attention on his
RE Birthday! Since Spring is synonymous with Baseball, I thought I'd use that for my analogy and lesson plan. I like Baseball. I played softball for many years as a kid and I enjoy going to Baseball Games to watch the live action on the field. I don't watch it on TV. I don't want to just sit and watch a game that is happening somewhere else. If I can't physically be PART OF THE GAME, I'd rather not just sit on the sidelines and watch it. I will go find another game that I CAN play!
Todays lesson is focused on communication. I have had a personal relationship with Jesus and God for as long as I can remember. My walk is all about FAITH. I have never been one to spend a lot of time in prayer and really never felt too comfortable with it. I Thank God all the time for his countless blessings he bestows upon me, but I am not a Prayer Scholar. I never felt like I should bother him with asking for things when there wasn't really anything I wanted anyway. I know he has lots of emails, texts, and Instant Messages to go through (haha) and they are way more important than anything I could ever feel the need to "ask" him for. So I never became good at this form of communication.
As I grow in my life and in my daily walk with Jesus by my side (actually in my heart), and God upstairs waiting for me to call for help, I decided it was time to start using this lifeline. My husband and I have been church hopping recently. Its sort of like bar hopping, except COMPLETELY different. Instead of going from one Bar to another, sampling alcohol and getting drunk with spirits, we go to different Houses of Worship to get FILLED with the Holy Spirit. Every church has its own style and lots of them have their own rigid rules. Most of them are created by a person in leadership that has their own interpretation of the Bible and their own life experiences that lead them to want to control what you are being fed (or being served up in a message). I don't like some ONE else trying to censor my God, dilute HIS word, or ADD to it by getting all legalistic. I am perfectly capable of discerning right from wrong and don't need another Adult to guide me. JESUS and GOD are my guides. I prefer to go straight to them. I'm not afraid of them and I don't need a middle man (or woman) to speak on my behalf or on THEIR behalf. I don't want to lose anything in translation so I will talk to, see, AND HEAR directly from the source, Thank You very much.
In the process of visiting a few different churches the same message seemed to keep repeating. PRAY. Focus on SPECIFICS when you pray. Ask for what you want. Be Persistent. Don't feel like you are not worthy of receiving more blessing. And on and on and on. I've gotten really good at hearing God when he talks to me.
B is for BELIEVE. Before you even consider going to God with a Prayer, you have to first BELIEVE IN HIM. Its kind of like saying you don't believe in Santa but then proceed to tell him what you want him to bring you on Christmas. How the heck can he DO anything FOR YOU when you don't even acknowledge his existence? It's gonna be kind of hard for him to magically appear when you are telling him he isn't there. Starting the conversation with "Hey God, I know you aren't there but if you are and you haven't forgot about me, I really need you right now" is probably NOT the best option. A better opening might be:
"Hey God. I know I haven't talked to you in awhile--or EVER. I'm sorry I said those things about you but I FEEL you are there and I really need you now. So if we can start fresh, that would be GREAT!"
You see, GOD hasn't forgotten about YOU just because you don't believe in HIM. He has always been there and is just waiting for you to open your eyes and SEE HIM with your HEART. This is often referred to as FAITH. It is believing even when you can't see it. ESPECIALLY when you can't see it or don't feel it. Lets play Scattergories for a minute and go for double points. BLIND BELIEVING is critical and the first step as you come out of the dugout. Grab the bat, believe it is real and get ready to SWING it! Next is the letter A.
A is for ASK. Now that you BELIEVE in God, just tell him what you want. He already knows what you need but he wants to hear from you. This one is where a lot of people give up and quit talking to God or Believing IN God. Often times, we try and micromanage him. We tell him what WE WANT, HOW WE WANT IT, and WHEN WE WANT IT. Well, that really isn't his style. He is perfectly capable of determining what is BEST for you and certainly will provide better results than anything you could do on your own.
GOD has never let you down and yet you don't give him the gratitude he deserves. He already gave you life. If he did nothing else for you your entire life, THAT would be enough. However, he wants to do more for you. He wants to bless the Tube Socks right off your cleat covered feet (remember we are playing baseball still. I know that I took you to the airport with the luggage analogy--I'm a TRAVELER, can't help it. Try and keep up. You can do it. I believe in You). So if you really want to see wonderful results, you should Thank Him in advance. He will deliver the goods. They may not be what you expect or what you wanted, but they will be JUST RIGHT. The longer you go without hearing him and talking to him, the longer it will take you to see the truth. Lets kick up the Scattergories a minute and go for TRIPLE points: T is for THANK YOU, TRUST, and TRUTH. All of those are the final point when stepping up to BAT. You wanna know the BEST thing about this particular League? You don't even have to put on a uniform to play the game (get dressed). Heck, you don't even have to go to the baseball field (church) to be on the winning team. Just lay in your own bed or sit in a comfy chair in your living room or get on your hands and knees WHEREVER you see fit. GOD is there. HE is everywhere and HE MAKES HOUSE CALLS. All you have to do is dial 911 (NO, NOT literally people---using metaphors here) and give the First Responder the opportunity to answer your call and save your life by giving you a heart transplant. I for one, really want as many players on the field as possible. The more people batting, the more HOME RUNS we get on the scoreboard! So what do ya say? Anybody wanna play some Baseball? Step UP to the plate. BATTERS UP:
B: Believe in HIM
A: Ask HIM for help
T: Thank HIM for it
T: Trust HIM with it
E: Expect great things from HIM
R: Respect HIM
S: Sing HIS PRAISES
Hey batter, batter, swing batter, batter, SWING! Hit it Hard and just LET IT FLY!
If after reading this you really want to bat but still aren't sure how to swing it, just repeat the Lords Prayer and let the words guide your heart. You don't even need a Bible to find it. I'm not going to do EVERYTHING for you so you can just google "The Lords Prayer" and read it right from your computer screen. However, Prayer is personal so you don't have to try and find big words or fancy talk to express yourself. GOD already knows what you want and need. He just wants you to Call Him and Chat about it, face to face. He's kind of old school like that :-)
