I stayed at the Fort Worth Naval Base for a night-I LOVE staying at military bases when I travel for a few reasons. #1-they are cheaper than a hotel. I can stay in a full suite for $60 (no tax or parking fees added on). As a retired member of the Air Force, I do not receive much in the form of retirement pay (certainly not enough to live off) so being able to stay (on a space available basis) in base lodging is my favorite retirement benefit. #2-it is on a secure, gated installation so I feel safe. #3-I sacrificed 20 years of my life for my country and I value and appreciate the troops still on active duty (and those retired) and when I am on base, I have a chance to show my love and support to them. So anytime I travel, I always check the military lodging availability first. There are LOTS of places I travel where there are no military installations so it isn't always an option. I checked in at the front desk and was greeted with smiles and a key to my room.
I spent a couple hours wandering the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens and taking lots of pictures. It was a weekday and early in the morning so I was able to get shots without people in them--my favorite time to visit the gardens :-) Here is just a sample of some of the Pre-Spring beauty I enjoyed:
Sadly, my time in Fort Worth had come to an end. I only allowed myself one morning to sort of "preview" the city to see if it would be worth coming back for an entire weekend. I will say that YES, it IS and I cannot wait to have more time to enjoy the sights, people and food this great city has to offer. My free sample was yummy but I need the whole 4 course meal next time :-)
